The proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to The Brawn Girls Hydrotherapy Pool Fund. The fund has been created to help two sisters from Risca suffering from Schwartz-Jampel-Aberfeld Syndrome. The syndrome is extremely rare with only six registered cases in the UK. The syndrome causes joints to contract and also effects muscle rigidity leaving the sisters in constant pain. As the disease progresses it will cause mobility problems. Hydrotherapy is currently the only way to provide pain relief and slow the progress of this terrible disease. As the syndrome is very rare little provision can be made by the NHS and there is no registered charity to assist the family.
Schwartz-Jampel-Aberfeld Syndrome is an inherited muscle disorder which causes extreme pain through muscle stiffness and weakness. There is no cure for the syndrome, so hydrotherapy treatment helps to alleviate the constant pain and make life more comfortable for the sufferer.
