DebRA
DebRA UK is the national charity working on behalf of people with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). DebRA was founded in 1978 by a group of parents whose children were affected by EB. At this time only some 200 people with EB were known to health professionals in the UK. The original aims of the charity were to stimulate knowledge of, and interest in, EB for the benefit of those with the condition and their families and to fund medical research into EB. From these humble origins DebRA has grown significantly with DebRA Groups now having been established in 32 countries around the world.
Caerphilly Miners' Hospital
Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital was built in 1923 to provide health care to the 24,000 miners and their families who worked in the 29 pits of the Rhymney Valley. A broad range of inpatient, daycase and outpatient services are provided in the hospital, including the Caerphilly Birth Centre. Within the hospital, there are three general medical wards with a total of 77 beds and three surgical wards with a total of 34 beds. The hospital has a number of specialised areas within these wards, including 6 cardiac monitored beds located on Nelson ward, and the Windsor Assessment Unit which was developed through the redesignation of beds on Senghenydd Ward.
